I've covered this on my prior blog ( http://kercal.wibsite.com/2014/05/05/may-the-third-fourth-and-fifth/ ).
But May the Fourth is a sad day for me, as well as Star Wars day for the world (and, now, a Bank Holiday in the UK to celebrate the British connection to the films).
May 4 2015 marks the year long anniversary of DrawQuest going away. It was a fabulous art and drawing app. By no means fully featured by fun and very community minded and spirited. Loved it. Read the above blog for the sad tale of the last picture I drew in the app (above).
The purpose of the app was to give the community of artists a starter image and they could fill it in, or completely remodel it should a sub quest have been discussed on Twitter.
More often than not I sat in the shadow of some phenomenal artists or thoughtsmiths. Mr Chris, Tone, Salmon, Sloth, Mean Geri, Cupcake and, I'm sure, lovely names my snot encrusted brain are hiding from me... It was the best of times.
The business model was... Well. The appeals too generous and should have given us less. Many of us bought coins we didn't need when the writing started to be drawn on the wall and then a malicious hack attack took it away from the artists who enjoyed the sense of community it gave us.
Many of the group have moved onto Sketch Club and French Girls but, for me, DrawQuest was the sort of magic which couldn't be rebottled. Besides I'm ridiculously busy at mo and I don't think, if DQ had found itself into my iPad now, that it would have been the same - I'd have been more of a sideline player.
...and to bring it back to Star Wars: a jar of Jawas... Because that's the sort of loveliness the app inspired.
And I still miss it.
