Oddly enough I'm having a week where I'm pursuing my evolution as an artist and, at the same time, having a huge and very happy wallow in nostalgia. In the Venn diagram of my mind, right at the centre, is a sunflower.
I'll come back to the pictures I want to paint later, there have been some lingering in my mind for a long time now,, bursting to come out... but I've been bumping into old friends, and long missed besties, revisiting old methods of drawing onto the new screens I've been nursing...
Basically? It's been an odd week or so.
In my garden we've two new arrivals. One very welcome and one very much not. Some beautiful sunflowers have grown up, in a variety of colours. And we also have a fresh crop of false widow spiders. You can probably guess which thing I like most...
At the moment all of that is on hold though. The new academic year has begun and new students are beginning to appear. Or old students are back for more and it's my job to keep them moving, keep them learning.
But the drawing will still happen of course. And in the back of my mind are several small projects that I've wanted to work on... And one major one that's been in my head for a decade and has recently begun to resurface. It begins with the line "On an orange peel planet, lit by a sunflower..." Maybe this is the year I'll get to see it carry on from the decade long ellipsis.
