"You used paper...?"
People often seem surprised when I use a sketchpad. I grew up with sketchpads. I always carry a Moleskine on me, oftentimes more than one. In my bag I generally have a Sharpie, a gel pen and a Pentel brush pen.

As well as a tablet and a stylus. And more often than not a laptop. Technology gives us some fabulous options, but I love starting on the unprinted page.
For Arthur I started with a Moleskine sketchbook on a train from Guildford to London. Then, on the same train, I started to block in the colours on an iPad Mini 2. On a following train I (nearly) finished colouring the image on a Surface Pro 3, finally finishing the digital painting on the same computer five minutes before the deadline of submitting it to a competition.

The competition? I'm a HUGE fan of Art On The Street in Maidenhead. It's a collaborative project which sees hundreds of artists take to pitches to sell their artwork that (I hope and assume) Maidenhead is justifiably proud of being home to. At the same time a magazine is printed to accompany the day and the cover is open to public voting...
>>Here<< in fact.

.... and it has two days to go (at time of writing... voting closes on Thursday 10th March). At the moment I'd just in the lead but not in any way unassailably so and if you'd be kind enough to take the time to vote at the link above for a small robot called Arthur who wants to escape his programming and see what can be found in a world of creativity.. well, that'd be fab :)
